River

“Why is the elevator so slow?” she mutters.

“Tell me three things you’re grateful for,” I say.

She does a double take. “Is this where I’m like your…pet project? Don’t feel sorry for me.”

Rainbow, sorry is the last thing I feel for you.

I want you under me.

Deep and hard.

“How are things with Donovan?” I ask.

Her throat bobs. “I-I can’t talk to you about him. I mean, yeah, um, it…doesn’t feel right, you know, to him.”

Right. He’s her boyfriend and my frat brother.

The door opens and she slips out, her arm brushing against my chest. I follow, sucking down the electricity between us.

She blows out a breath. “I know what this is, why you’re being nice to me—”

“Yeah? Tell me, because I can’t figure it out,” I snap, annoyed she won’t open up while the other side is pissed at myself for asking. “Trust me, I wish I didn’t…” I stop, my jaw clenching.

She stops at the door to class and faces me. “Your paper. I’m sorry I can’t help you, I really am. I love helping others, but I don’t think it’s a good idea for us…” She bites her lip, her gaze avoiding mine. “There’s something about you and me—” She halts and looks down at her feet. “Anyway, I know a few students who tutor athletes. Let me give you their names—”

“No one but you, Anastasia.”

“What? Why?”

Instinct takes over and I back her against the wall, towering over her. I tilt her chin up, and she doesn’t speak or move, just breathing fast, as my hand slides around to her nape. A hum of heat goes through my body as my hands tangle in her hair.

“River…what…” Pink rises on her cheeks as her lashes flutter.

Every time, I’m pushing a little more, the dark side of me winning. Monday. Her apartment. Now.

I could kiss her right now, but it’s wrong, immensely, and I’m being bad, so bad…

She gazes up at me, her eyes flaring, the gold around her pupils darkening. She swallows as goose bumps appear on her neck.

A primal sound builds in my throat.

Anger.

Frustration.

Loyalty.

Dammit. I shouldn’t be this close, shouldn’t touch her—

“I’ll wait.” I grind my teeth and step back.

Her lips part, a small puff of air coming out. She looks at my mouth. “For what?”

Beautifully written!! You know when you pick up a book from Isla that you need to just grab your tissues, get comfy and settle in for a spell! Once I started The Revenge Pact there was no freakin way I would put it down. This book is an enemies to lovers, a bit forbidden-ish, a bit triangle-ish, a bit slow burn-ish, but it runs the full gamut of emotions and OMGosh the feels!! One of the things I love about Ilsa’s books is how well she portrays the college life, especially when it comes to Greek life!! River Tate is the big guy on campus. Football phenomenon. President of his fraternity. He’s also drop-dead handsome, with deliciously sculpted muscles and tats, seldom lacking a girl at his side. An all-around good guy with leadership skills that endear him to his Kappa brothers. River is that guy who would do anything for his friends. In spite of all the things that River is, he also lives with a trifecta of learning disabilities… ADHD, dyslexia, and dyscalculia thus making college tough for him. I can’t wait for you to fall in love with him like I did… one layer at a time!! Anastasia Bailey is a curvy, angel faced beauty, with lavender hair. Though she has no claim to notoriety, she is an intelligent, dedicated student with a sassy, snarky side. She transferred into Braxton to bolster her acceptance into law school. She is beautiful inside and out and a best friend you would wish for. Her life goal is helping those in need once she has her law degree. It’s while she is studying at the library one evening that she meets River. River and some of his fraternity buddies are at the library when they notice Anastasia sitting at the table across from them. It’s when River sets out to help his friend Donavan meet her. The only thing is that River is totally gobsmacked after talking to her. But being the loyal friend, he will do what ever he needs to avoid her. Hence making her think that he hates her!! Needless to say, Ana and Donavan become a couple. And though it pains River to watch his friend be with her it rips at his heart. But as Ana and Donavan’s relationship begins to crumble it will be River that she finds herself turning to. Of course, this is also the time that River begins to question his loyalty to Donavan too. I mean how could he treat Anastasia the way he is if he really loves her. The final straw is when a drunken Donavan betrays Anastasia on an open mic at a house party!! Humiliated and hurt Anastasia flees the house with River hot on her trail! Feeling alone and demeaned it’s River who shows up to stand by her through this tumultuous time. Then her friends come up with the idea of a revenge pact, something River wasn’t comfortable with. But then the perfect situation presents itself. River needs to find a tutor to help him pass a class so he can play in the spring. Anastasia is who he wants to tutor and in return he will be her Revenge Partner! Of course, this will be the undoing of River and his unrequited feelings for Anastasia. Watching the emotions and feelings unfurl between these two is sweet, sexy and hot, hot, hot!! The chemistry between these two rocks and just who knew just how romantic River could be? Swoon!
