MARY’S 5 STAR REVIEW

Through Her Eyes in an emotional journey of Aria Bennett. Gah… the feels, the tears! Aria is a woman who has suffered much heartbreak and sadness in her life. She protects herself by built walls to hide this pain even though she still has many doubts and insecurities. I loved this book and Ava Harrison did an excellent job of reaching into your soul and making you feel as though you were Aria.

Aria Bennett had always taken the blame for her brothers drowning. A guilty she always carried with her. With a mother who drank and always held resentment towards her for that drowning, to a father who was never available for her as he buried himself at work running the family business. A family business that she was expected to someday run. A position that she had no desire to fill as it was always supposed to be her brother who did.

Parker Stone had been Aria brother’s best friend and befriended her after the death of her brother. Although she was younger than Parker, by several years, it was Parker she found solace with.   He was always there to talk and to visit, so it was only natural that she would fall in love with him.

Aria was his best friends little sister and it had always been unacceptable to him to think of Aria as anything other than that….until it wasn’t. It was his admission of love to Aria that sent her running. After the years of having feelings for Parker watching him from the sidelines as he dated other girls, went to parties and off on adventures with his roommate. He had shut her out of that part of his life therefore causing much resentment from Aria.

So now that Parker had professed his love for her, everything she had always wanted, how could she not accept it? But she didn’t and ran in spite the fact that she did love him. Taking the trip that she and Parker had planned to take together. Not only was Aria running from Parker but also her parents, the job she didn’t want, as well as the pain.

My heart broke for Aria as she began her trip alone in Tuscany. A woman wrapped up in pain and tortured by events from her past. Guilt that she had carried with her for years…. accepting the fault of her brothers drowning, for her mother’s drinking and her father burying himself in work. Escaping from it all.

It’s in Tuscany that Aria meets Chase Porter, a professional photographer. He’s full of mystery and just appears one day. He’s charismatic, a little full of himself and has a smile that knocks you off your feet. Chase also pushes Aria. He forces her to take risk and live outside the carefully constructed walls of her comfort zone. He helps her forget. The banter between the Aria and Chase is fun and flirty but it also hot as hell. Where would this things between Aria and Chase go?

Prologue

I was a horrible person.
Truly.
But I had goals, and he didn’t fit into them.
I didn’t know how to take back the words I’d said. They filtered through my brain like a bad dream that I just couldn’t awaken from. Just when they started to slowly slip away, they resurfaced. Rooted so deeply in my psyche, there was really no place for them to hide.
If only I’d known the ramifications of my actions. If only I’d known how my decisions would hurt me beyond repair.
But at the time, I couldn’t let him halt my progress. I was so close . . .
“Are you in love with me, Aria? Do you want to be with me?” Parker asked, and my heart completely stopped. I had waited so long to hear those words, for him to see me as more than a friend.
“No. I don’t want to be with you,” I replied. Even as the words left my mouth, I knew they were a lie.
I didn’t just love him. It was so much more than that. So much more than love. He was my rock, my friend. He was the lifeline that ran through me.
At the time, I thought I had no choice . . . I thought he would be able to see that after everything I’d been through I needed to succeed. I needed to make up for the loss of my brother Owen. In the end, though, my decisions were always toxic.
Toxic to him.
Toxic to Owen.
Toxic to everyone.
“No, I don’t love you.”
Those were the last words he heard as he turned and walked away.
My heart tightened in my chest as the words replayed over and over again that afternoon. A record skipping that I just couldn’t turn off.
Then the phone rang.
Three words were uttered.
Three words that changed my life.
The phone slipped from my trembling hand, and I dropped to the floor.
I couldn’t swallow. I couldn’t scream.
Cemented in place.
My shoulders curled in, and I clutched my stomach through dry heaves.
I’d lost my soul mate, and now I’d lost my future.
Everything I’d worked for crumbled, and it all no longer mattered.
